| Having A Hard Time Drawing Close To God?
by David L. Burns "Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded" (James 4:8) (Subscribe To Pastor David's Free Daily Devotional) I want to share with you today, a Spiritual growth plan, that if followed will keep you growing in faith, wisdom and knowledge of Christ. First, no matter what time your day starts, start with prayer. It is best to pray before you get out of bed. Here, use the prayer of Jabez in I Chronicles 4:9-10. Secondly, as soon as you can, listen to atleast 15 minutes of bible teaching. Here are some ideas: Use your pastor's sermon tape from Sunday. Listen to good bible teaching on a Christian radio station in your area. Or listen to our 15 minute teachings. Try doing this before breakfast if possible. Thirdly, pray during lunch time. Try praying Matthew 6:9-13 as a guide, but pray in your own words. Fourthly, buy a notebook (or a Fresh Wind Growth Notebook) and take 15 minutes between lunch and supper to write out a prayer to God. Write a prayer that expresses your joy and your frustration. Fifthly, read the next chapter from God's Word between supper and bed time. In your note book answer this question: "Today as I spend time in God's Word, God impressed the following upon my heart." Sixthly, just before going to sleep, pray to God the prayer of Jabez again. (Subscribe To Pastor David's Free Daily Devotional) These six things are to be done each day. As we continue with the next six, these are to be done one time on each of their respective days. Seventh, worship with other Christians. I understand that many people do not have a church home, but consider making an effort to worship with other Christian in a home bible study, Sunday church worship or mid-week worship. Eight, on another day, fast. Now, wait! Before you stop reading or prepare to give me excuses why you can't, why not consider that God may give you the ability to fast. Try fasting from something. It doesn't have to be food or drink. You might want to fast from your favorite hobby or T.V. show and spend that time praying. You may just want to fast from a favorite candy bar, but fast from something and use that time to pray. Nine, on another day, serve someone. We can get so caught up in ourselves that we fail to serve others. So seek God's direction on someone you can serve. Ten, on another day, read. Bible reading is part of our daily reading habit, so I'm talking about reading a good Christian book, magazine or Christian internet article. For example, you can read a sermon online at: www.freshwind.org/sermon.html or book. I'd suggest a book by Francis Frangipane called, THE THREE BATTLE GROUNDS. It is a powerful book! Sound in Bible doctrine too. Eleven, on another day, meet with another Christian who is more mature than you and spend time sharing and praying for your growth. Ask your mentor to help you with questions you do not understand. Lastly, on another day, use your gift. I Peter 4:10 says we've all been given atleast one Spiritual gift from God. If you do not know what your gift is, then visit our Spiritual Gift Page Dear Lord, thank You for the strength You give to accomplish what You desire. I love You Lord, and I pray that these suggestions will not be easily forgotten, but quickly pursued. In Jesus' Name, AMEN!
